Al Simmons (Michael Jai White) is a paid assassin, but when he begins to question his role in the corrupt business run by mogul Jason Wynn (Martin Sheen), his boss orders him killed. Five years later, Al returns to Earth, literally a changed man, having made a deal with the Devil. In exchange for an opportunity to once again gaze upon his beloved wife, Wanda (Theresa Randle), Al has agreed to become a creature named Spawn, and lead Hell's Army in the upcoming war.
